Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Aalen / DE

When it comes to straightness, the design of the University of Applied Sciences in Aalen can hardly be outdone. Three buildings run parallel to the slightly sloping side of the Burren, surrounded by terraces which, on the one hand, compensate the difference in height and, on the other, further emphasize the linear arrangement of the building complex. Numerous rotating sun-control elements structure the façade vertically. Depending on the degree of opening, what is in fact a glass building appears as a solid wooden block. At the front sides, the buildings look closed, with the exception of the library where a reading balcony offers space for fresh air and quiet. Inside, exposed concrete and white plastered partition walls dominate. The floor plan is structured by two walls with the stairs and air spaces between them, and zones of rooms with three different depths: the rooms for the seminars, the offices and storage as well as the auditoriums and the laboratories.
