Hörsaalgebäude der Hochschule Zittau / DE

Like numerous other public buildings, the Zittau university
campus is situated right on the circular road around the old
town, the former city wall. In the direct vicinity of the existing
university building, after the demolition of a textile factory, a
site became vacant for development: in 2006, this is where
the architects Tilman Bock and Norbert Sachs constructed a
new building with lecture halls which, due to its exposed
location, is a new prelude to the campus. The distinct incisions
and apertures of the matte-white shimmering, twostorey
cube immediately catch the eye. Towards the south,
the upper level projects far out into the street and marks the
entrance below it. Inside, three smaller and one large lecture
halls are arranged in an L-shape around the foyer. From here,
a variety of perspectives is possible across an open space to
the upper level where the seminar rooms as well as the access
to the roof terrace with steps for sitting on are located.
