Universität Mozarteum Salzburg / AT

On the traditional site, but with a new look, Mozarteum University, founded in 1841, presents itself with its 110 class- and 20 practice rooms in the centre of Salzburg. The task set for the architects was to open the building complex towards the city and to adapt it on the inside to the demands of a modern music academy. In addition to the rooms where music is taught and those for events and for science, a sound studio, the university library and the vicechancellor’s office were to be integrated into the building complex. Parts of the old building were deconstructed, others reduced to the shell. A new forecourt was created which borders on Mirabellplatz: On its right, it is flanked by the stone solitaire of the Chamber Music Hall and leads frontally to the glazed entrance hall of the university. Towards the laterally adjacent Mirabell Garden, the building opens via a loggia and an adjoining patio.
